That glorious time has come. The heat has exited the district. Fall is in the air, and Georgetown basketball sits on the precipice of another season – right in that intoxicating sweet spot when expectations are high (but not irrational) and reality remains in the distance.

The WAG is excited to kick off our inaugural season with our very first game preview! We’ve got you covered for the sneaky good exhibition battle between your Hoyas and DMV little brother George Washington University Revolutionaries.

Getting to Know You: Revs Edition
  • PROGRAM MOMENTUM. Chris Caputo enters his fifth season as head coach of the Revs, fresh off the highest KenPom finish (128) for GWU since Mike Lonergan’s NIT champion run in 2016.
  • HIGH EXPECTATIONS. At 81 (one spot above Georgetown), GWU enters the season with the highest preseason KenPom ranking since the final three seasons under Lonergan (2014-2016).
  • STARTING FIVE CONTINUITY. GWU returns two starters from last year’s team, including Junior Guard, Trey Autry, and All A-10 Second Team center, Rafael Castro. They also return Forward, Garret Johnson, who redshirted last season with an injury after starting 23 games as a Freshman.
  • OLD FRIENDS. Star center, Rafael Castro, was recruited by Ed Cooley to Providence, where he played two seasons. In his first year, under Cooley, he played just 6 minutes per game. In his sophomore season under Kim English, he started one game and played 9 minutes per game.
  • FINDING A HOME. After transferring to GWU, Castro elevated his game offensively, averaging 14 points, 9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.4 blocks while shooting 66% from the floor.
  • TALE OF TWO THREES. GWU was the 304th-ranked three-point shooting team last season, while their three-point defense was ranked 63rd. The Revs hope to improve their three-point offense this year with the addition of Duquesne transfer Tre Dinkins, who shot 38% from three last season, and the return of Garret Johnson, who shot 40% from three in his Freshman season two years ago.
